Reception Advice

1.    Hire a DJ instead of a band.  Although a live band has a certain allure that a DJ is lacking, DJ's are often a better choice.  Most bands are limited in the scope of music they are able to play.  DJ's on the other hand can always play your favorite songs.  Bands also take breaks every half hour to forty-five minutes, which slows the party.

2.    Limit the number of people giving toasts to 2.  Limit the time of toasts to 1 or 2 minutes.  Guests get restless during several long speeches and quit listening.

3.    Listen to any advice given by your DJ and reception hall.  They work in the business if they tell you that you are making a mistake they are usually right.  But, keep in mind they work for you so don't sacrifice something you want to make them happy.

4.    Serve dinner as soon as possible.  Guests will be hungry, and the party doesn't really start until after dinner is over.  So, the longer you wait before dinner the less time your guests will have to dance.
