DJ Advice
1. Make sure you can purchase an additional hour the night of the event. If everyone is having fun and you don't want your wedding to end you need music or everyone leaves.
2. There are a lot of people who buy a $1,000 stereo and call themselves DJ's. Make sure that they have been doing this full time for a while. There's nothing quite like an accountant who spins music on the weekend to keep a party boring. Although larger companies that have several DJ's who work part time are usually great.
3. There's only two ways of playing music these days. You use a computer to play and mix music, or you use CD's and a mixing board. If a DJ mentions the word IPOD walk out the door. (The DJ should work and take requests, not just start a play list and collect a pay check).
4. This may seem absurd but this is important. Hire a DJ who is close to your own age. A 20 year old a 35 year old have very different opinions of what party music is. Rather than take hours of your time explaining what "good" music is. Just find a DJ who agrees with you.
5. Most DJ's double as a MC (master of ceremonies). They keep track of time and make sure you get to everything you want for the night. Make sure if your DJ does not, there is a price break.
6. Find out how many people you are hiring for the night. Different DJ services supply one, two, or three people for the night to make sure you get a certain level of attention. If it only costs a little more it may be worth the money.
